After more than a year of waiting, BTS has unfortunately canceled their “Map of the Soul” world tour due to issues related to COVID-19.
On Thursday (August 19), Bighit Entertainment made the announcement via Weverse.
“Our company has been working hard to resume preparations for the BTS MAP OF THE SOUL tour, knowing that all fans have been looking forward to the tour for a long time,” the company said in a statement. “However, due to changing circumstances beyond our control, it has become difficult to resume performances on the same scale and on the same schedule as planned. Therefore, we must announce the cancellation of the BTS Map of The Soul Tour. “
The “Map of the Soul” world tour was originally announced in early 2020. The group has scheduled 38 concerts in North America, Asia and Europe. The tour was scheduled to begin in April 2020 in Seoul, South Korea. Prior to the announcement, the tour was postponed indefinitely.
Those who have purchased tickets will receive an email regarding refunds at the point of purchase.
“Once again, allow us to extend our sincere apologies to all the fans who have been waiting for the resumption of the BTS Map Of The Soul Tour,” Bighit added. “We are working to prepare a viable schedule and performance format that can meet your expectations, and we will provide updated advice as soon as possible.”
South Korea is currently experiencing an increase in the Delta variant strain of COVID-19. The country has reported 2,000 new cases a day despite a six-week ban on assembly after 6 p.m. and social distancing protocols. Only 21.6% of South Korean citizens are fully immunized, they hope to fully immunize 70% of the population by October.
