BIOGRAPHY OF CARL THEODOR DREYER
Sometimes also known as Carl Th. Dreyer, or Carl Dreyer. Illegitimate son of a Swede and his maid, he spends his childhood from one Danish family to another, before being literally adopted by a Lutheran family. In 1910 he became a journalist, then he became an author, screenwriter and film director in the silent era. In 1928 with “La Passion de Jean d’Arc”, he shows all his anti-naturalist and symbolic poetics. Due to his obsessive perfectionism, Dreyer begins to have his first problems, which are later exacerbated by financial problems. In 1932 he returned to journalism. Directs the masterpieces in maturity: “Dies Irae” (1943), “Ordet” (1954) and “Gertrud” (1964). He died in 1968.
