CARY ELWES BIOGRAPHY
Actor and producer. He grew up in a family of artists and was educated in London at Harrow School. Once he graduated, he went to America to study drama at Sarah Lawrence College. But, after two years, he gives up his studies being very determined to want to become an actor. He opens his career with “Another Country – The Choice” (1984), by Marek Kanievska. In 1987, Rob Reiner wrote him as the protagonist of “The Fantastic Story”, in which he plays the role of the famous hero ‘Westley’. This role earned him the appreciation of the public and critics, however, he tries in every way to free himself from the possibility of becoming a character actor in period films by rejecting an avalanche of parts of this genre. Subsequently, in effect, he distinguished himself in films of different types: “Days of Thunder” (1990), shot by Tony Scott, alongside Tom Cruise; in the well-known and hilarious “Robin Hood: A Man in Tights” (1993), by Mel Brooks; or in “The Price of Freedom” (1999), by Tim Robbins. Of the new millennium we remember his participation in “Saw – L’enigmista” (2004), by James Wan, in the role of the protagonist, and in the cinepanettone version of the stars and stripes “New Year’s Eve in New York” (2011), by Garry Marshall. He is also very active on TV where he made his debut as a producer on the film “Leather Jackets” (1992), directed by Lee Drysdale. He met his wife, Lisa Marie Kurbikoff, at a benefit party in Malibu in 1991. He is very fond of history.
