BIOGRAPHY OF CRISTINA DONÀ
Cristina Donà, born Cristina Trombini Sapienza is an Italian rock singer and author, with a great passion for music since she was a child. After attending art high school, she graduated in scenography at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts and before pursuing a career as a musician she worked as a set designer, in theater and for some video clips. Among his loves and musical influences, since he was a teenager, there are Bruce Springsteen, Sinead O’Connor, Joni Mitchell, Michelle Shocked, then Tom Waits, Lucio Battisti, the Beatles and many others. Officially Cristina Donà’s debut in music takes place in January 1991, when she opens an Afterhours concert with a repertoire of covers for guitar and voice. In the following years Cristina Donà plays alone or in duo with Marco Grompi (duo to which Cristina gives the name of Lullemat) in clubs and in the Lombard summer festivals and begins to get noticed also thanks to the growing word of mouth. In 1995 he came third at the Ciampi Prize in Livorno, making himself known also nationally. This is the year in which Cristina Donà begins to write her own songs straight away and contacts Manuel Agnelli again for the creation of an album, the title of which will be Tregua. The album was recorded in early 1996 with the collaboration of important musicians of the new national rock scene, especially Manuel Agnelli, who produces it. In February 1997 Tregua was released for the Mescal label and immediately obtained important awards including the Targa Tenco 1997 as “Best debut album”, and above all the approval of Robert Wyatt who, seduced by Cristina’s live performance at Salone della Musica in Turin, reports Tregua in the British music magazine Mojo among his favorite records of that year. A long series of concerts follows in which Cristina Donà also acts as a supporter for prestigious artists such as Ben Harper and David Byrne.
