On Wednesday May 19, the 28-year-old artist made the big announcement on his new podcast, “4D with Demi Lovato”. Lovato had an open conversation with non-gender artist and writer Alok Vaid-Menon regarding the idea of the genre and the release of Lovato.
“For the past year and a half, I’ve been doing healing and self-reflection work,” the “Sorry Not Sorry” singer said. “And through this work, I had the revelation that I identify as non-binary. Having said that, I will officially change my pronouns to them / them. I think it best represents the fluidity I feel in my kind of expression and makes me feel the most authentic and true to the person I know I am and who I am still discovering. “
Lovato admitted that he is not an expert or a spokesperson, but that he wants to share this new level of vulnerability with his fans. They revealed that the reason they came out is to do it for all those people who can’t come out and be their authenticity.
Lovato said their definition of non-binary is that “you are not exclusively male or female.”
Lovato shared that “it would mean the world if people could start identifying me as them”. They added that they understand that people will slip and accept it as long as they make the effort.
“I think it’s important because I want to use those pronouns that I like. I also don’t want people to be so afraid of making a mistake that they don’t try to use them,” they concluded. .
