Demi Lovato confirmed in a tweet today that they are not binary.

“Today is a day when I am so happy to share more of my life with all of you – I am proud to let you know that I identify as non-binary and that I will officially change my pronouns so that they / them moving forward, ”they tweeted with a sparkling heart emoji.

Demi shared that their exit was not an instant decision.

“It came after a lot of healing and self-reflection. I’m still learning and coming inside myself, and I don’t pretend to be an expert or a spokesperson, ”they wrote. “Sharing this with you now opens up another level of vulnerability for me.”

“I’m doing this for those who haven’t been able to share who they really are with their loved ones,” they added. “Please keep on living in your truths and know that I am sending so much love your way xox”

Demi’s childhood friend, Miley Cyrus, is also not binary and identifies as genderfluid.

“I’m just equal,” Miley, who uses her pronouns, told TIME. “I’m just equal. It has nothing to do with a part of me or how I dress or what I look like. This is literally how I feel.
