DREAM THEATER BIOGRAPHY
Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band, founded in 1985 in Boston by Mike Portnoy, John Petrucci and John Myung. Despite some line-up changes, the three original members have always been present in the group until September 8, 2010, the day when Mike Portnoy decided to leave the band. Originally born under the name of Majesty, Dream Theater became one of the most commercially successful progressive bands of the nineties. The band has remained famous over the years thanks to the quality of its members and the external projects in which they took part. Guitarist John Petrucci was called six times as the third member of the G3, in 2009 he was named “second best metal guitarist ever” by Joel McIver in his book The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists and was included in the “Top 10 Greatest Guitar. Shredders of All Time “from GuitarOne magazine. Mike Portnoy won 23 Modern Drummer magazine awards and is the second youngest person to be inducted into the Rock Drummer Hall of Fame at the age of 37. John Myung was voted The Greatest Bassist of All Time in a MusicRadar poll in September 2010.
