EDWARD BURNS BIOGRAPHY
Director and actor. Born in New York, raised on Long Island, he studied film and English literature at Hunter College. As an actor he most recently worked with Robert De Niro in the thriller ’15 Minutes’ (2001) and, alongside Tom Hank, in ‘Saving Private Ryan’ (1998). The latter was the first film in which Burns did neither write nor direct. He made his feature film directorial debut in 1995, presenting ‘The Mc Mullen Brothers’ at the ‘Sundance Film Festival’, with which he won the Grand Jury Prize. Made on a budget of $ 25,000, the film has grossed over $ 10 million worldwide. His other films include ‘The Sense of Love’ (1996, with Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Aniston) and ‘No Looking back’ (1998). With his brother Brian – with whom he founded his own production company, ‘Irish Twins’ – he wrote and directed the comedy ‘Fighting Fitzgeralds’ for the BBC. In 2000 he bought the Manhattan loft that belonged to John John Kennedy for over two million dollars.
