BIOGRAPHY OF FAUSTO BRIZZI

Writer and director. Graduated in 1994 in directing at the “Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia”, after various theatrical experiences and the making of some short films, he began to devote himself to writing screenplays for the big and small screen. For TV he has signed, among others, the series “Valeria medico-legal”, with Claudia Koll; “I don’t have the age”, with Marco Columbro; “Sei forte maestro”, with Emilio Solfrizzi; “He and She”, with Vittoria Belvedere; “Benedetti dal Signore”, with Ezio Greggio and Enzo Iacchetti, “Two and a half crooks”, with Claudio Bisio and Sabrina Ferilli. For the cinema, since the end of the 90s, he collaborates with the director Neri Parenti and is co-author of all the so-called ‘cinepanettoni’ directed by Parenti himself in the 2000s. In 2005 he made his debut behind the camera and directed the film ” Night before the exams “, which he also wrote, awarded multiple prizes in various Italian and international festivals and which earned him the David di Donatello as best emerging director; the Ciak d’oro; the Telegatto, the Sky Award and the Audience Award at the Annecy Festival. The film was a real cinematographic phenomenon, grossing over 15 million euros at the box office and creating a series of collateral initiatives including a successful novel, a school diary, a Disney comic, a musical directed by Saverio Marconi, a transposition in present times of the same characters entitled “Night before the exams – today” (2006, directed by Brizzi himself), and a remake from beyond the Alps by the French director Frédéric Berthe, entitled “Nos 18 ans” (2008) . In 2006 he also wrote short stories and articles for “Il Messaggero”. In 2007 he won a special Silver Ribbon as “character of the year” and wrote the script for “Concrete reinforced”, the debut film of Marco Martani, friend and colleague of all time. In this ‘black Italian’ play Giorgio Faletti and Nicolas Vaporidis. The following year he wrote the screenplay for “Oggi sposi” directed by Luca Lucini. In December of the same year he received the Golden Ticket (the 9th consecutive) for the screenplay of “Christmas on a cruise”. Then he works on his ensemble film “Ex” which gets the special Comedy Silver Ribbon. And while the film achieved great success with audiences and critics, Mondadori published the first book written by the director, entitled “The Ex manual”. “Ex” is also the best-selling Italian film at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. It is distributed by countries such as: Australia, Argentina, Brazil, France, Mexico, Chile, Hong Kong, Spain, Taiwan, Korea and Germany. Also in 2009 he tried his hand at the horror genre and wrote the screenplay for the film “The Valley of Shadows”, by Mihály Györik, presented at the 2009 Locarno Film Festival. “WILDSIDE” was subsequently born, a production company he founded together with friend Martani, Saverio Costanzo, Mario Gianani and Lorenzo Mieli. From this union comes out in 2010 “The solitude of prime numbers” (directed by Costanzo), based on the novel of the same name. Two very successful films follow for Brizzi: “Males against females” (2010) and “Femmine contro males” (2011). Both are nominated for the Silver Ribbon for Best Comedy and win prizes. The first gets the “Cinema Diamonds” award in the “Best Direction” category at the 2011 Venice Film Festival, while the second wins the 2011 edition of the “La Primavera del Cinema Italiano – Federico II Award”. He collaborates on the screenplay of “Nobody can judge me”, Massimiliano Bruno’s debut film. He also realizes the video clip of the song from the film “Vuoto a perduto”, interpreted by Noemi and written by Vasco Rossi and Gaetano Curreri. In 2012 another comedy was released, “How beautiful it is to make love”, shot with 3D technology.
