BIOGRAPHY OF GIULIANO GEMMA
Born in Rome in 1938, Giuliano Gemma he spent his childhood in Reggio Emilia and then returned to the capital where, as a teenager, he began working in the cinema as a stuntman.
Thanks to her beauty and athletic and sculptural physique (she successfully practices numerous sports, including boxing), after debuting in 1958 with a small role in Venice, the moon and you of Dino Risi, also appears in My wife’s enemy is Get by!
He then began his career in the popular genres of the cinema of the time. After an uncredited appearance as a centurion in Ben Hur of William Wyler, from 1959, made his debut as a protagonist, with oxygenated hair, in the peplum Here come the titans of Duccio Tessari, from 1961.
Two years later it appears ne The leopard of Luchino Visconti in the role of one of Garibaldi’s comrades Alain Delon, the charming “red devil”. He also gets a prominent role in French Angelica, with Michèle Mercier.
A long theory of mythological films follows how Maciste, the greatest hero in the world, The two gladiators, Hercules against the son of the sun. But it still is Tessari to ferry it into the Italian western in 1965, with the very popular A gun for Ringo, followed by the sequel Ringo’s return (under the American pseudonym of Montgomery Wood).
He has since become one of the best known and most loved faces in spaghetti westerns, with titles such as The Arizona gunslinger, The long days of revenge (of Florestano Vancini with which it also runs The chaos), Alive or preferably dead (still with Tessari).
In 1971 he was Robin Hood in The Fire Archer of Giorgio Ferroni. In 1973 appears with Bud Spencer in the popular Angels also eat beans (and in the sequel Even the angels pull right).
He also soon appears in more busy roles like that of Corbari, the beautiful film by Valentino Orsini – with whom he will work several times – on the homonymous partisan leader. Also works with Luigi Comencini (Crime of love), Giuliano Montaldo (Closed circuit), Pasquale Squitieri (Lionheart, The iron prefect), Damiano Damiani (A man on his knees) is Dario Argento (Darkness).
For Valerio Zurlini recites in the beautiful Buzzatiana transposition The desert of the Tartars, so wins the David di Donatello as best actor.

The western remains Gemma’s great passion. When making a movie about the mythical comic book hero Bonelli Tex Willer, Tex and the lord of the abyss, it’s still Duccio Tessari to choose him as the protagonist. A second career, also successful, awaits Giuliano Gemma on television, where it appears in series as Captain is Capri. He is known and loved all over the world, from America to France to Japan, where Suzuki dedicates two motorcycles to him. On the private side he is – as he himself tells us – a great and fortunate Don Juan: his conquests cannot be counted, since Ursula Andress to Stefania Sandrelli. From his first wife Natalia he has daughters Vera, also an actress, and Giuliana. In 1997 he married the journalist Daniela “Baba” Richerme in second marriage. His last, brief film appearance is that of the hotel manager in To Rome With Love of Woody Allen. He died in 2013, aged 75, in a dramatic car accident.
