BIOGRAPHY OF GOGOL BORDELLO
Gogol Bordello is a musical group that mixes reggae, punk, hip hop and traditional Ukrainian music in their music, falling into the genre of gypsy punk. The musical instruments they use are the most diverse, from accordion to fiddle, violin-like, in addition to the sax present in some records, all mixed with cabaret, punk and dub. A British critic and comedian, Phil Jupitus, described them as the Clash fighting with the Pogues in Eastern Europe. Hütz cites in an interview Jimi Hendrix among their influences in the musical field, and Nikolai Gogol, whose name they bear, among those in the ideological field from which a certain surrealism, in addition to Manu Chao, Fugazi, Kalpakov, Rootsman and the aforementioned Clash. In another interview released to MtvU.com, the artists who have most influenced the band are identified in the group The Stooges, in Sasha Kolpakov and Vladimir Vysockij. The sound of their violin is very energetic and fast, and the live performances are made spectacular by the choreography, the two percussionists and the singer’s inspiration.
