How did restarting iCarly resolve Sam’s absence?

The iCarly reboot has officially arrived!

On Thursday, June 17, Paramount + aired the first three episodes of the series. Original stars Miranda Cosgrove, Jerry Trainor and Nathan Kress all returned for the revival while Jeanette McCurdy, who played Sam Puckett, decided not to participate because she stopped acting.

So what exactly happened to Sam Puckett and how did the iCarly reboot respond to Jeanette McCurdy’s absence?

The first episode “iStart Over” touched on what Sam’s character does in their fictional world. In the 2012 original series finale, Sam got a motorcycle, which played out in his brief storyline. Carly and Freddie share a conversation regarding Carly wanting a co-host, or really, Sam.

Carly said her best friend “follows her happiness with this biker gang,” named The Obliterators. Freddie noted that he hopes she’s okay before Carly says, “It’s Sam, I hope they’re okay.”
