BIOGRAPHY OF HUGH DANCY
Hugh Dancy was born in Stoke, north-west England, on June 19, 1975. The eldest of the three children of philosophy professor Jonathan Dancy and Sarah Ann, Hugh begins to take an interest in acting during high school, but prefers to attend the faculty of English language and literature when the years of university studies at Oxford arrive. He works for a few months as a bartender, during which he meets the agent who initially launches him as a model, until the first proposals from TV arrive.
Dancy began acting in 1998 with a guest star role in the British crime drama Trial & Retribution. The same year appears in the Franco-US series Robin Hood and in Dangerfield by BBC. In 2000 he is the protagonist of the David Copperfield tv movie, followed the following year by the first role in the cinema: D’Artagnan in Young Blades. The big screen returns to court him for Black Hawk Down of Ridley Scott, King Arthur, Basic Instinct 2 is Savage Grace, in which among others with already established interpreters such as Ewan McGregor, Sharon Stone, Clive Owen is Julianne Moore. Meanwhile is also Robert Devereux, the Earl of Essex, in HBO miniseries Elizabeth I, role for which he received his first major nomination: Best Supporting Actor in an Emmy Miniseries or TV Movie.
First appreciated in the role of Adam, a genius engineer with Asperger’s syndrome, in the film of the same name, in 2011 Dancy plays another difficult and touching role in an episode arc of the Showtime dramedy The Big C. For eight episodes he joins Laura Linney as the terminally ill Lee Fallon. He also acts in movies Hysteria and The Wizarding World of Oz before signing with NBC for his first starring role: talented FBI profiler Will Graham in Hannibal, Bryan Fuller’s adaptation of Thomas Harris’ novels centered around serial killer Hannibal Lecter. In the spring of 2015 it reaches the Australian television screens with the miniseries Deadline Gallipoli, in which it flanks Sam Worthington.
Dancy knows the actress Claire Danes on the film set A timeless love. The star of Homeland becomes his wife in September 2009, with an intimate ceremony in France.
