BIOGRAPHY OF JACQUES GAMBLIN
Actor. He studied acting at the Center dramatique de Caen. He made his show business debut as a theater technician, but soon joined a Breton theater company as an actor and was later welcomed to the Théâtre National de Bretagne. He then moved to Paris where he alternated between theater and television and in 1988 made his film debut with Nicolas Ribowski’s “Périgord Noir”. In 1996 he made a name for himself with Gabriel Aghion’s “Day and Night” and throughout his career he starred for directors such as Claude Lelouche, Shoehi Imamura and Claude Chabrol, establishing himself as one of the most important comedy actors in French cinema. In 2002 he won the Silver Bear for Best Actor at the Berlin Film Festival thanks to the role of Jean Devaivre, the assistant director involved in the resistance against the Germans, in the film “Laissez-passer” by Bertrand Tavernier. Although he had great satisfaction from the cinema, he never left the theater where he continued to perform. He also wrote two plays which he also interpreted: “Quincailleries”, a monologue inspired by the facts of his family (it comes from five generations of trinkets sellers) and “Le Toucher de la Hanche”.
