BIOGRAPHY OF JEAN-PIERRE DARDENNE
Film director. He studied Dramatic Art at the IAD With his brother Luc he decides to pursue a film career and between the end of the 70s and the early 80s he shoots with him a series of short films, after having founded the production company “Dérives” and then ‘Les Films du Fleuve’. In 1987 they made their first film “Falsch”, followed by “Je pense à vous” (1992), “La promesse” (1996) and “Rosetta” (1999). The latter wins the Palme d’Or and the special prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2002 they are back in Cannes where they win a second special prize of the Ecumenical Jury with “The son”, whose protagonist, Olivier Gourmet, gets the prize for the best male interpretation. It is also at the French festival that, in 2004, the two brothers are loved by critics and audiences by winning the second Palme d’Or for their sixth feature film ‘L’enfant – Una storia d’amore’. Four years later they compete again in Cannes with ‘Lorna’s Silence’, the story of an Albanian immigrant who, to obtain Belgian citizenship, marries a drug addict, with whom the two brothers win the Award for Best Screenplay.
