He recites with the same ease in Spanish or English and knows French very well. In 1963 he still held the same role in the French film “Cyrano et d’Artagnan”. Twice divorced, in 1953 he married the well-known American singer, much younger than him, Rosemary Clooney (sister of George Clooney’s father). After the birth of five children, in 1961 the two divorced but remarried in 1964. The second time the cohabitation lasts even less and in 1967 a second divorce marks the end of the relationship and for Rosemary the first hospitalization in the clinic for a nervous breakdown that will keep her away from the scene for years. The story of their stormy marriage was told for TV in 1982 in “Rosie: The Rosemary Clooney Story”. The first child of the couple, Miguel, born in 1955 is an established TV actor, known in Italy as Dr. Garret Macy of the series “Crossing Jordan”. Their youngest son, Rafael, is also an actor. José said of himself that, after the good roles of the 1950s, he had gone into “free fall”. He still acted until the end, a lot on TV and also in the theater.
