Joshua Bassett Almost Died After “Driver’s License” Released

Joshua Bassett has revealed a near-death experience where he only had a 30% chance of survival.

On Thursday, June 24, GQ posted an in-depth interview with the High School Musical: The Musical: The Series star where he discussed the terrifying moment. Two days after her castmate Olivia Rodrigo released her song “Driver’s License”, which fans assumed to be about Bassett, he “started getting very sick, and it just got worse and worse.” .

“I thought it was, like, food poisoning or something. It got worse, it’s worse, it’s worse, it’s worse,” he recalls. Bassett then felt an unimaginable pain that drove him to the hospital where he was on the day of the release of his single “Lie Lie Lie”. He revealed he was suffering from heart failure and septic shock. Bassett noted that he was “sure the stress had something to do with it.”

“[The doctors] told me I had a 30% chance of survival, “he revealed.” They told me if I had not presented to the hospital within 12 hours, I would have been found [dead] in my apartment.”

In the days following the release of Rodrigo’s single, Bassett became a trending topic and received a major backlash, although neither party confirmed what had transpired in their alleged relationship. He said he “had no energy to be able to focus on anything other than staying alive.”

At the time, Bassett posted on his Instagram account that “according to the doc, I now have the ‘sickest patient in the hospital’ medal.” He did not further explain to fans the cause of the medical emergency but that he had to undergo surgery to resolve the issues.
