Kim Kardashian is facing a major backlash after wearing a sheer, cutout gown in Vatican City.
On Monday June 28, the reality TV star was pictured with Kate Moss and her daughter, Lila Grace, while touring Vatican City.
Due to the sacredness of the Sistine Chapel to the Roman Catholic faith and culture, there is a dress code, similar to that of most other historic places in the city. Kardashian chose to wear a sheer white off-the-shoulder dress from Barragán. The dress features the new “ovarian cutouts” trend as the cutouts have been placed close to her hips.
According to the Sistine Chapel website, entry is “allowed only to appropriately dressed visitors”.
“Preferably, you should wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts. Low-cut or sleeveless clothing, shorts, miniskirts and hats are not allowed, ”he notes, before mentioning that you can buy plastic capes to wrap yourself around.
While she covered her top half with a black leather jacket during the Sistine Chapel tour portion, it is not known if she covered her legs as parts of the dress were see-through. She shared photos from the tour on social media and wrote: “Don’t worry, I respected the dress code and covered myself fully inside St. Peter’s Basilica and Sistine Chapel. . [sic]. “
A good majority of social media users were unhappy with her choice of outfit as it shows a lack of respect for the culture and their traditions. People also referred to several other non-Catholic celebrities who visited and followed the dress code to be respectful of the laity.
On the other hand, others have said that people should be free to wear whatever they want. While some users have suggested that the dress code is sexist, others have noted that the dress code applies to all people.
