BIOGRAPHY OF KYLE MACLACHLAN

Kyle MacLachlan, born Kyle Merritt MacLachlan, was born on February 22, 1959 in Yakima, Washington. The senior year of high school Kyle finds himself facing a parental divorce, but it doesn’t negatively affect his school performance and he still manages to graduate on time. The passion for the world of entertainment was transmitted to him by his mother, when she became the director of a theater program for teenagers. In high school MacLachlan began taking part in school plays and in 1982 he graduated from the University of Washington in acting.

Abandoned the idea of specializing in the business world, he made his film debut with a starring role in Dunes (1984) by David Lynch. It will be this controversial filmmaker who will guide him towards success in his early career; in fact in 1986 MacLachlan is again the protagonist of a film directed by Lynch, the cult movie Blue velvet (1986). After having measured himself with sci-fi and thriller in the two Lynchani films, the actor is chosen by Jack Sholder for the role of Agent Gallagher in The alien (1987).

In 1991 MacLachlan plays the role of pianist Ray Manzarek in the biopic The Doors of Oliver Stone. The pinnacle of success, however, reaches him with the role of FBI agent Dale Cooper, played first in the series The secrets of Twin Peaks and then in its prequel, the film Fire walk with me (1992), both directed by his friend David Lynch. In 1993 he was in The Trial, adaptation of The Kafka Trial, together with Anthony Hopkins. In these early nineties MacLachlan is on the crest of the wave and, in addition to those already mentioned, receives many leading roles, such as Showgirls (1995) and In the heart of the hurricane (1996). On TV is Major Jesse Marcel in Roswell (1994), telefilm focused on the story of the crash of the famous UFO in 1947.

The 2000s begin with other roles of great importance. While at the cinema it is the Machiavellian King Claudius in Hamlet 2000, receives a recurring role on the hit series Sex & The City, namely that of Dr. Trey MacDougal, husband of Charlotte York. The drama follows on the big screen Me Without You (2001), the thriller Triple identity (2002) and fantasy Northfork (2003). In this period, so little active in the cinema, a more dynamic period on TV coincides with the series The Librarian – In Search of the Lost Spear (2004) and The mysterious island (2005). It is also in 2006 that he entered the cast of another successful series, Desperate Housewives, like Orson Hodge, husband of Bree Van De Kamp.

In 2009 he is at the cinema with Mao’s Last Dancer, where he plays the American lawyer Charles Foster, who allowed the Houston dancer Li Cuxin not to be repatriated to Communist China. From 2010 onwards MacLachlan focuses on the small screen and takes part in several series, including How I Met Your Mother (2010), Believe (2014), Agents of SHIELD (2014), until a return to origins with the sequel Twin Peaks (2017). In 2018 he is at the cinema with The mystery of the house of the time of Eli Roth as the evil sorcerer Isaac Izard.
