The 10th anniversary celebration of Lady Gaga’s flagship album Born this Way continues, this time around, with Gaga enlisting Olly Alexander to cover her single “The Edge of Glory”.

The single’s release is part of the promotion for Born this Way: 10th Anniversary Special Edition, a full-length version of the album featuring contributions from other popular pop artists. Years & Years – now a solo project by Olly Alexander – adds a synthpop touch (forgive the phrase) to Gaga’s original line-up.

Lady Gaga said her grandfather’s death inspired “The Edge of Glory”. She remembers seeing her grandmother with her grandfather in his last moments and seeing a look of gratitude: he had had a good life and felt loved. For Gaga, it felt like a moment of sporting victory in the league, a moment of glory.

Years & Years’ new cover of “The Edge of Glory” follows three other well-received covers of songs from Born This Way. Singer Orville Peck contributed to a country version of “Born this Way”; Big Freeda covered “Judas” and Kylie Minogue contributed to a disco cover of “Marry the Night”.

The full version of Born this Way: 10th Anniversary Special Edition album will be available for download on June 25.
