Scheduled for the Thursday night release of his latest single “Industry Baby”, Lil Nas X shared a touching letter he wrote to his young self, reassuring “Montero 20” that all will be well.
Now only 22 years old, the letter shows how far the artist has come in such a short time. Two years ago, Nas X was on a rocket ride, going from an unknown Soundcloud musician to a global phenomenon as “Old Town Road” topped the charts and refused to budge for 17 months.
During this time, he was locked up and feared that his career would never be defined by “Old Town Road”.

“I wrote a song for us. I know sometimes you feel like it’s all downhill from here, ”he begins in his letter. “I know your sexuality made you feel like an outcast among your peers. I know going from the biggest song in the world to being trapped in your apartment is weighing on you. And I know if you hear the phrase “one hit wonder” once more, you might burn. “
He continued:
“But I need you to continue. I need you to realize that you have the opportunity to be the person you needed while growing up. I need you to stop feeling sorry for yourself. And I need you to remember that the only person who needs to believe in YOU is YOU.

In March, when he released “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)”, Nas X wrote another letter, this time to his 14-year-old:
“Dear Montero, 14 years old, I wrote a song with our name on it. It’s about a guy I met last summer. I know we vowed never to go out publicly, I know we vowed never to be “that” type of gay person, I know we vowed to die with secrecy, but it will open the door for many. other homosexual people to simply exist.
He continued:
“You see, it’s very scary for me, people will be angry, they will say that I am pushing a diary. But the truth is, I am. The agenda for people to stay out of other people’s lives and stop dictating who they should be. I send you love from the future.
