BIOGRAPHY OF LUCIANO EMMER
Film director. Student in Law, not yet graduated, he founded a small production house with Enrico Gras that stands out for the production of various documentaries in the early years of the second post-war period. These are works involving works of art, presented to the public with an original use of editing and music. With this technique, among other things, Emmer illustrates works by Giotto, (in 1939 “Tale from a fresco” the Scrovegni chapel in the b / w photo of the Alinari brothers) Goya, Leonardo, Piero della Francesca and Picasso. He made his debut as a director of feature films in 1950 with ‘Domenica d’agosto’. Together with the screenwriter Sergio Amidei (sometimes joined by the writers Vasco Pratolini and Ennio Flaiano) Emmer creates a very prolific duo who, over the years, have made several films based on the stories of ordinary people: “Paris is always Paris” (1951), “The girls of Piazza di Spagna” (1952) and “Terza liceo” (1953). After “Camilla” (1954), “Il bigamo” (1958) and the controversial “La ragazza in vetrina” (1960), Emmer leaves the cinema to devote himself to television and advertising. Behind the camera back at the beginning of the nineties for “Basta! There I make a film”, which he presented unsuccessfully at the Venice Film Festival, and later in 2000 with “A long, long, long night of love” . In 2003 he is once again in Venice where he presents “L’acqua … il fuoco”, presented as a collateral wind, where he was awarded the ‘Pasinetti Award’ for his career. In 2004 the Torino Film Festival dedicated a complete retrospective to him.
