Miley Cyrus is heartbroken to learn that a fan was killed in a homophobic attack.
On Saturday (June 26), the “Midnight Sky” singer responded to a fan who told the story of the reported murder of a Brazilian fan named Gabriel. Her apparent boyfriend has revealed that Gabriel was at a barber shop in Embu das Artes when he was shot three times in the head and murdered for his sexuality in a brutal hate crime.
“I am devastated to learn that a smile has brutally lost its life due to hatred, judgment and injustice,” Cyrus tweeted. “Calling this disturbing action ‘homophobia’ would mean that the attacker had a ‘fear’ of gay people. Which is fucking bulls —. This human’s heart was full of HATE and ANGER.”
Cyrus added that these events cannot be “written off” as homophobia. She noted that the person who was really scared in this situation was Gabriel.
“This is exactly why the importance of my mission to fight against this type of cruelty [with] love, acceptance and FREEDOM are at the top of my priorities and constitute the purpose of my existence on this planet. I couldn’t imagine if this was happening to one of my best friends, ”she continued.
“And knowing that this happened to someone who loved me and I love back breaks my heart,” she concluded before using the hashtag #WeWontLetThemWin
Cyrus founded the Happy Hippie Foundation in 2014. Their mission is to bring young people together to “fight injustice against homeless youth, LGBTQ + youth and other vulnerable populations”.
