BIOGRAPHY OF NURI BILGE CEYLAN
Film director. Study electrical engineering at Bosforus University. His first love is photography but the transition to moving images of cinema is necessary for him. Thus he made his debut in 1995 with the short film ‘Koza’, followed in 1998 by his first feature film ‘Kazaba’, a portrait of the way of life in a small and remote village in Turkey. With the autobiographical ‘Uzak’ (2003), the story of the midlife crisis of an Istanbul photographer, he won the Grand Prix of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival. Three years later he returns to competition at the French festival with ‘Pleasure and love’, with which he narrates the slow crumbling of a love story. The Cannes Film Festival seems to be the best showcase for each of his new works because, in 2008, he also won the Award for Best Director with his ‘Üç Maymun’ (‘Three Monkeys’), in which he recounts the difficulties of a family who struggles to stay together.
