BIOGRAPHY OF RACHID BOUCHAREB
Director and screenwriter. His family has Algerian origins. From 1977 to 1983 he worked as assistant director of French public television, the SFP. In the following years he worked for TF1 and Antenne 2. He entered the cinema circuit starting to shoot some short films from 1980. The opportunity to shoot his first feature film, ‘Batôn Rouge’, arrived in 1985, in which he tells the story of three Parisians who dream of America. In 1991 he presented ‘Cheb’ at Cannes, a film that was received with great enthusiasm. Ten years after his debut film, and therefore in 1995, he won the Oscar nomination for best foreign film with his ‘Poussières de vie’. He received another Academy Award nomination also in 2007 for ‘Indigènes’ (2005), already presented as a special event in Venice in the Orizzonti section and winner in Cannes of the award for best male interpretation to the whole group of leading actors. In 2008 he returned to Cannes, this time called to be part of the jury of the Festival.
