BIOGRAPHY OF RALPH FIENNES

Ralph Nathaniel Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes was born on December 22, 1962 in Ipswich, a town in the English county of Suffolk. The first of six brothers, he is the son of a novelist and a photographer, and boasts, among his distant relatives and ancestors, illustrious members of the British aristocracy. At 11 he moved with his family to Ireland, and then returned to England again, where he finished school. studied at Chelsea College Art and enrolled at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, which he attended from 1983 to 1985. The next step, after several experiences on the West End stages, is the Royal Shakespeare Company, which allows him to try his hand at the Bardo comedies and tragedies.

After a couple of television experiences, Ralph Fiennes makes his film debut, alongside Juliette Binoche, in Wuthering Heights (1992), in which he plays the tormented Heathcliff. Luck comes the following year, not because of his performance nor The child of Mâcon of Peter Greenaway, but for his extraordinary interpretation of the Nazi officer Amon Göth in Schindler’s List, a role that pays him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor and a BAFTA.

Self in 1994 Fiennes was directed by Robert Redford in Quiz Show, in 1995 really stands out, especially by the female audience, in Strange Days, in which he is the troubled wire-trip clip dealer Lenny Black. Another winning shot is The English patient (1996), which gives the actor the Academy Award nomination.

In the years immediately following, Ralph Fiennes he works intensely, with fluctuating results: the actor ranges between genres, devoting himself so much to a classic of nineteenth-century Russian literature (in Onegin, from 1999), as for the 1960s fantasy spying (in The Avengers, of 1998).

Its best proof is End of a story (1999), a film by Neil Jordan in which he duets with Julianne Moore.

For Ralph Fiennes the following decade begins with a rather prestigious collaboration: the one with David Cronenberg, which directs it in Spider (2002), entrusting him with the role of a man tormented by psychic disorders. No less crazy than him, but definitely more aggressive is the serial killer Francis Dolarhyde – called “the tooth fairy” – that Brett Ratner makes him interpret in Red Dragon, also from 2002. The latter villain, however, pales when compared to Lord Voldemort, the nemesis of Harry Potter to which Fiennes lends his face starting from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005).

In these years the actor also dedicated himself to dubbing, making people talk Lord Victor Quartermaine of Wallace & Gromit – The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. However, the most important cinematographic experiences of the period remain The Constant Gardener – The Conspiracy (2005), from a famous novel by John le Carré, is The Reader (2008), where Ralph perfectly embodies the blind pain and melancholy of the protagonist in an adult version. Immediately after this experience, Ralph Fiennes remains somewhat muted – at least as an actor, merely reprising the role of Lord Voldemort in the other chapters of the bespectacled wizard saga and to appear in rather commercial productions. His priority is directing, and for the debut film the choice is based on Shakespeare’s “Coriolano”. The result is Coriolanus (2011), followed in 2014 by The Invisible Woman, on the love story between Charles Dickens ed Ellen Ternan. In both the actor carves out the role of the protagonist, but not enjoying the hoped-for success.

In 2012 Ralph Fiennes has the honor of playing in Skyfall Lieutenant Colonel Gareth Mallory, aka the new M. – a character who will also appear in Specter.

In 2015 he is busy shooting the new film by the Coen brothers Hail, Caesar!, Fiennes gave us perhaps his finest performance in Grand Budapest Hotel (2014), of which he was the absolute protagonist in the role of concierge Monsieur Gustave H.
