BIOGRAPHY BY RAYMOND BURR
Actor. Most famous for having linked his face to the television personality of the lawyer Perry Mason, he spends most of his adolescence traveling in the wake of his father, a commercial agent. After his parents’ divorce, Raymond follows his mother to Vallejo, California, then starts working (as a ranchero, police officer, photographer and nightclub singer) to help with the household expenses. During the Second World War he joined the navy and was seriously wounded in the stomach during the battle of Okinawa (1945). Start acting in the theater before moving on to the radio. He made his film debut in 1946 with ‘San Quentin’ (1946). In 1951 he plays the relentless prosecutor in ‘Un posto al sole’; in 1954 he was the villain in Alfred Hitchcock’s The Window on the Courtyard. At forty, in 1957, he gets the part that will make him known: that of the lawyer Perry Mason in the famous TV series. He played the character until 1966, to then resume him, in a new and shorter series, between 1973 and 1974. Still in the role of the famous lawyer he played several television films from 1985 until his death. For eight years, from 1967 to 1975, he also played the character of Ironside in the homonymous television series. In more recent years he has taken part in films such as ‘The Craziest Plane in the World – Crazier and Crazier’ (1982), ‘Godzilla’ (1985). He dies on his ranch of cancer. He is buried at the ‘Fraser Cemetery’ in New Westminster, Canada. Among his hobbies, the cultivation of orchids, in the long run it became a real activity.
