BIOGRAPHY OF RICHARD CRENNA
Actor and director. He is known to the general public for playing the part of American Special Forces Colonel Samuel Trautman, former commander in Vietnam of hero John Rambo. Born into a family of humble origins (his mother Penni ran a small hotel on the outskirts of Los Angeles, where the whole family resided), he approached the world of entertainment in the 1950s. He first performed while still a teenager on the radio show ‘Date with Judy’ (1946). When the show is canceled, Crenna switches from radio to television, in the cast of the series ‘Our Miss Brooks’ (1952). The same year he also made his debut on the big screen in ‘The Pride of St. Louis’ (1952). After finishing high school, he enrolled and subsequently graduated with a degree in theater science from the University of Southern California. Throughout his career he starred in numerous films and television series, including ‘The Eyes of the Night’ (1967), ‘Catlow’ (1971), ‘Flamingo Kid’ (1984), ‘Jade’ (1995) and ‘The Fugitive of the impossible mission ‘(1998). As a director he also wrote some episodes of the television series ‘Lou Grant’ (1977) and ‘Agenzia Rockford’ (1974). After playing all three episodes of the ‘Rambo’ series, Crenna, a character actor with a solid reputation, worked until shortly before his death, when his illness definitively prevented him from appearing on the set of the TV series ‘Judging Amy’. In 1988 a star with his name was placed on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Father of three children (one of whom, Richard Anthony, also an actor) He dies in a hospital in Los Angeles from the aggravation of the prostate cancer that had long affected him.
