Ricky Martin worries about not having a job because he’s gay

Ricky Martin has spoken of the “disappointing” lack of upcoming actor offers, and he wonders if the problem is being gay and dating.

The talented pop star and actor, whose most notable role came in 2018 in American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace, was released in 2010.

His portrayal of Gianni Versace’s lover, model and fashion designer Antonio D’Amico earned him an Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie that year. But apparently this recognition was not enough to keep quality offers coming.

Speaking candidly about her career, the 47-year-old star told People, “I love playing. I’m waiting for these scripts, these excellent scripts. I can play gay, I can play straight, I can play a serial killer. I can play Latin, but I can also play European.

“I’m ready. Give it to me, man. Give it to me.

I don’t know if I don’t get roles because I’m gay. But if so, it’s really sad. I will continue to work until life is different.

Since its release, Martin has appeared once on Broadway, in Evita, and as a judge on several international iterations of The Voice. In 2020, he appeared as a guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars. Also in 2020, he voiced Don Juan Diego, a sensitive matador doll, in the popular Netflix holiday animated film, Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey.

Last week, he also told People he still felt “a little bit PTSD” from the time Barbara Walters tried to get him out in an interview in 2000.
