BIOGRAPHY OF SCOTT GLENN
Actor. Born in an area in the Appalachian Mountains, he had a difficult childhood due to serious health problems that forced him to bed for over a whole year. During his illness, little Scott read a lot, even dreaming of becoming Lord Byron. After defeating the disease thanks to an intense rehabilitation program, he finished school and enrolled at ‘William and Mary’ College, where he graduated in English Language and Literature. After the military interlude (three years in the marines) he subsequently tried to combine his passion for fiction with that for adventure working as a crime reporter at the ‘Kenosha Daily Tribune’. He arrived at the cinema with the ambition of becoming a successful author, but after discovering that he was not cut out for the role he decided to overcome the problem by studying acting. In 1966 he moved to New York where he studied at the Actor’s Studio. To support his studies, he helps other students by directing their plays. In 1968 he began to work in professional theaters and on television. The first film role he played in 1970 in ‘The Baby Maker’, by James Bridges. Convinced that he has taken the big step, he moves to Los Angeles where, by his own admission, he spends “the most miserable seven years of his life” during which he makes only brief appearances on television feeling “like a person who had to paint. the Sistine chapel with a marzocca “. Despite this, he also manages to work with Jonathan Demme, Robert Altman and Francis Ford Coppola. In 1978, tired of Hollywood, he moved to Ketchum (Idaho) where for two years he worked as a bartender, ranger and hunter playing occasional roles in Seattle theaters. In 1980 it is, once again, James Bridges who changed the course of his life by proposing him the role of John Travolta’s rival in ‘Urban Cowboy’ and making him a star. Glenn’s acting skills, as well as his physical presence, support him in both action (‘Silverado’) and drama (‘The Right Stuff’) roles. In the nineties he appears in undisputed masterpieces such as’ The Silence of the Lambs’, ‘Hunt for Red October’ and ‘The Player’ as well as other successful films such as’ Killing Fire ‘and Tall Tale’. Over the years he has worked on lighter films such as the black comedy ‘Reckless’, the tragicomedy ‘Edie and Pen’ and the socio-political ‘Carla’s Song’ by Ken Loach. He currently alternates large productions (‘Absolute power’ and ‘Courage under fire’) with independent projects often interpreted by his sons Dakota and Rio Glenn, the result of his marriage to Carol Schwartz. In 1999 he lent his voice to the Japanese cartoon ‘Gundam’.
