Happy 38th birthday to Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levy. The Canadian gay actor, screenwriter and producer celebrated his birthday yesterday.
Levy took to social media to say he normally doesn’t make a big deal out of it. However, he felt compelled to say something after something beautiful and unexpected happened.
To mark Levy’s birthday, a group of supporters from the Faculty of Native Studies at the University of Alberta launched a fundraiser for the institution. They managed to raise $ 50,000, prompting a humble Levy to say thank you.
“An extremely generous group of people raised over $ 50,000 for @UANativeStudies on behalf of my birthday today. I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate. Thanks a lot. ️ ”

Levy has previously expressed his support for the UoA faculty. Considered the only faculty of its kind in North America, it strives to “produce graduates from across the university who respect indigenous knowledge, who are sensitive to indigenous histories and contemporary issues.”
Last year, Levy publicly announced that he was signing up to take a free online course with the faculty to relearn Canadian history from an Indigenous perspective. This has led to an increase in online registrations, with around 50,000 more following suit.
Come learn with me? I signed up for a (free) course at the University of Alberta called Indigenous Canada. 12 lessons that explore Indigenous histories and contemporary issues from an Indigenous perspective.

It’s awesome! I took this course on your recommendation and loved it! Everyone in Canada should take this course. It opened my eyes… not the history of Canada that I was taught in 1980 in Quebec!

On the career side, it was announced this weekend that Levy’s next big project will be an animated series for Hulu. He will co-write and voice a lead character in Standing By, described by Deadline as “a satirical look at the lives of a group of eternally bound and disgruntled guardian angels and the lessons they will eventually learn not only from dysfunctional humans.” they are responsible for protecting themselves, but also each other.
