BIOGRAPHY OF VINCENT GALLO
Actor, director, musician. Born in Buffalo to Italian parents, Vincent Gallo leaves home at 16 and moves to New York, where he tries to make his way in the entertainment world by trying all possible ways: as a musician, (he forms several bands, one of which with Jean-Michel Basquiat), as a painter and sculptor, exhibiting his works in New York galleries. After even attempting motorcycling, he finally lands as director with the short “If You Feel Froggy, Jump”. To support himself, he accepted some roles for television and modeled for Calvin Klein, without abandoning, however, his greatest passion, music, for which, in 1984, he received the award for the soundtrack of the film at the Berlin festival. Eric Mitchell’s “The Way It Is”, in which he also stars. In 1998 “Buffalo ’66” comes out, a sort of autobiographical film, in which he tries his hand as an actor, director, author, screenwriter and composer of the soundtrack. The film “The Funeral” by Abel Ferrara brought him to the attention of the general public who therefore know him above all as an actor but Vincent devotes himself passionately to directing and with his film presented at Cannes 2003 aroused various controversies.
