The highly anticipated film version of the Broadway In the Heights smash hits theaters and on HBO Max on June 11. To whet the appetite, we also have the opening number.
In the Heights follows a group of friends living in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood. Handsome bodega owner Usnavi (Anthony Ramos) dreams and hopes for a better life in the tropics, and itches and saves money to make his dream come true. He also has eyes for Vanessa (Melissa Barrera) a beautiful employee of the next living room. When Usnavi realizes that his shop has sold a winning lottery ticket, he rushes to tell Vanessa. As the two finally connect, a citywide blackout throws everything into chaos.

Summing up the plot of In the Heights isn’t easy, given its sprawling cast and intricate themes of family, cultural identity, romance, and the American Dream life.
