Ryan Reynolds has revealed his feelings about Taylor Swift ditching her kids in her music.
If you didn’t know, Swift used the names of Blake Lively and Reynolds’ daughters, James, 6, Inez, 4, and Betty, 1, in her song “Betty”. Reynolds opened up about his reaction to the song at a recent SiriusXM Town Hall event.
He called the references to his children “of honor”. The melody was featured on his Folklore 2020 record which went Platinum.
“I mean the names are our kids’ names, but we trust her implicitly and she’s very sensitive to it all,” Reynolds said of the singer. “And obviously the song has nothing to do with our children other than the names of our children.”
“We thought it was pretty, damn amazing. We still think so,” he continued. “You know, I always walk down the street and shake my head thinking ‘I can’t believe this has happened.'”
The best part? The kids had no idea that they would be featured on the track and their parents were able to break the news to them.
“We surprised them with that. Yeah. They didn’t know,” he revealed. “They had no idea. We don’t tell them anything. We find they are more compliant if you don’t give them access to outside information.”
At the time of the song’s release, Lively and Reynolds had yet to release the name of their youngest daughter, Betty. Swift did not explicitly confirm that this was her name, but hinted at it in a question-and-answer session with fans.
“I named all of the characters in this story after my friends’ children … and I hope you like it!” She said.
