Why is Ellen DeGeneres ending her talk show?
On Wednesday, May 12, The Ellen Show host announced that she would wrap up her show in 2022. The comedian spoke to The Hollywood Reporter to reveal why she decided to quit the longtime show. .
His series has been on the air since 2003 and has more than 3,000 episodes. DeGeneres was recording 180 shows a year. She said doing something for a total of 19 years was a long time and it could be quite repetitive.
“When you’re a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged – and as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it’s no longer a challenge,” she said.
The news comes as a shock to fans, but for DeGeneres it was the plan from the start. Originally, she was going to quit after season 16, but producers needed her to sign three more years due to affiliates and the station’s commitments. She didn’t hesitate in her major decision, despite requests from her team and her brother reminding her that the show means so much to so many people.
Although the show was the subject of controversy recently after toxic allegations in the workplace surfaced, DeGeneres assured that the drama had nothing to do with his decision.
“It almost had an impact on the show,” she admitted. “It was very hurtful to me. I mean, very. But if I had left the show because of that, I wouldn’t have come back this season.”
DeGeneres has revealed that she will have no shortage of daily hairstyle, makeup and wardrobe. She will miss the creative aspects and above all, her colleagues.
“It all got bigger than I could ever have dreamed of. I’m not the pretty girl who succeeded in Hollywood because of my looks. I worked from nothing to stand up to having this career and I’m so proud It’s the best thing I’ve ever done in my life. DeGeneres is considering her next steps and future career path, but she wants to take some time after finishing her intense filming schedule. She really wants to get into filmmaking and focus on her charitable endeavors.
“If there was a big role, I would be able to do it, which I am not able to do now,” she explained. “I am opening my campus in Rwanda next year and I want to get more involved in conservation and all that matters to me when it comes to the environment and animals.”
