BIOGRAPHY OF LAURA DERN
Daughter of art (the parents are the actors Bruce Dern is Diane Ladd), Laura Elizabeth inevitably enters the entertainment world since she was a child. Her father, however, when she is two years old, asks for a divorce and leaves home. Her mother raises her and makes her have small parts in his films, including Alice doesn’t live here anymore (1974). A few years later it turns To women with friends (1980), directorial debut of Adrian Lyne, and when she receives an offer to play a teenage musician in Ladies and Gentleman, the Fabulous Stains, her mother prevents her by considering her at 13 years too young for that role. Laura Dern asks for the intervention of the court, obtains the emancipation of minors and makes the film anyway. Two years later she is a student who has a relationship with her teacher in Teachers (1984).
1985 is the year in which she gains great credibility as an actress thanks to the role of a blind girl in Behind the mask and that of a free-spirited teenager who meets a mysterious man in First time. The following year David Lynch offers her a part in Blue Velvet, but it is in 1990 that the director gives her a memorable character in a memorable and bizarre film, Wild Heart. In the cast there is also the mother Diane Ladd with which he also acts together in Rosa disarray and her lovers (1991) which earned both an Oscar nomination. Laura Dern continues to bring characters to life in major films, often in small works with strong content such as October sky (1999), My name is Sam (2001) and The games of the greats (2004), or in highly successful blockbusters such as Jurassic Park (1993) and Jurassic Park III (2001).
In the mid-2000s he returned to work with David Lynch in Inland Empire (2006) and wins a Golden Globe for the TV movie Recount (2008) directed by Jay Roach. The award joins the first Golden Globe, obtained in the same category in 1993 for the Afterburn TV movie, and the third that arrives in 2011 thanks to Enlightened TV series in which she plays a woman trying to recover from a nervous breakdown at work. In the series, which lasts two seasons, she again stars alongside her mother who plays her character’s mother. 2014 turns out to be a good year for Laura Dern, thanks to joining the cast of Blame the stars, taken from the best seller of the same name, to the character played in 99 Homes, drama with Andrew Garfield presented at the Rome Film Festival, and the significant supporting role in Wild which allows her to obtain the second Oscar nomination.
