BIOGRAPHY OF ANNETTE BENING
Actress. She is the youngest of four children, she has two brothers and a sister. Growing up in San Diego, Annette Bening participated as a dancer on the Green Show, presented at the famous Old Globe Theater just outside San Diego, while still in high school. He later landed a small part in a Shakespearean production and two plays staged by the San Diego Repertory Theater. After graduating from San Diego State University, Bening was admitted to the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, where she studied acting and later joined the school’s theater company. She has appeared in some summer Shakespearean theater festivals and in several regional productions. In 1984 she married Steven White, director of the American Conservatory Theater (ACT). The marriage lasted until 1986 (but the two only divorced in 1991). She later moved to New York, where she starred in the production of “Coastal Disturbances”, originally staged on the Second Stage and then on Broadway, for which she was nominated for a 1987 Tony Award and received the Clarence Derwent. Award for Best Newcomer Actress. Bening made her big screen debut in 1988 in “It Wasn’t a Vacation … But a War,” opposite Dan Aykroyd and John Candy. She was nominated for an Oscar 1991 and was named Best Supporting Actress by the National Board of Review for her performance in “Risky Habits” (1990). in 1991 she was chosen by Warren Beatty for the film “Bugsy” and a story began between them that led to her marriage and the birth of four children between 1992 and 2000. She was later nominated for the 1995 Golden Globe. for his work on “The President – A Love Story,” in which he starred opposite Michael Douglas. In the spring of 2000, she returned to the theater after a ten-year absence to play Hedda Gable, the protagonist of Henrik Ibsen’s play, which was staged at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles. His first film appearances include Tim Burton’s “Mars Attacks!”; “Richard III”, the adaptation of Shakespeare’s famous tragedy starring Ian Mckellen; “Love Affair – A Great Love,” with Warren Beatty; Barry Levinson’s “Bugsy,” also played by Warren Beatty; Mike Nichols’ “About Henry,” with Harrison Ford; “Suspect of crime”, with Robert de Niro; “Valmont”, by Milos Forman and “Postcards from hell”. The female lead role in “American Beauty” directed by Sam Mendes earned her a 2000 Oscar nomination. She won the 2005 Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy for her performance in the film “Being Julia” but, for second time as in 2000, her Oscar nomination clashed, unsuccessfully, with that of Hilary Swank.
