BIOGRAPHY OF CARLA DEL POGGIO
Actress. Daughter of Ugo Attanasio, a colonel of the Italian army who in the years of retirement will devote himself to the passion for acting, she studies foreign languages, without however abandoning the dream of becoming a famous dancer. After moving to Rome, she attended the Experimental Center of Cinematography, where she was noticed by Vittorio De Sica who made her debut as the protagonist, at the age of 15, of the film “Maddalena: zero in conduct” (1940). Despite her young age, the girl immediately appears at ease in the role of Maddalena Lenci, an undisciplined and pestiferous pupil, the cliché of the numerous other characters she is called to interpret in the following years, including that of Caterina in “Un garibaldino al convent” ( 1942), again by De Sica, a film that repeats the success of the debut. In that period the decisive meeting for her life and career took place: the one with the director Alberto Lattuada, who proposed her the role of protagonist for the film adaptation project of the novel “Gli indifferenti” by Alberto Moravia. The two fell in love and got married on April 2, 1945. After the war, her interpretative register radically changed, demonstrating excellent dramatic skills in some films directed by her husband such as “Il bandito” (1946), “Senza pietà” and “Il Mulino del Po “(both from 1948), but also in masterpieces such as” Lost Youth “(1947) by Pietro Germi,” Caccia tragica “(1947) and” Roma ore 11 “(1951), both by Giuseppe De Santis, in which finds himself acting alongside actors of the caliber of Anna Magnani, Amedeo Nazzari and Massimo Girotti. In those years he also tried the way of the theater, treading the stages together with Margherita Bagni, Leonardo Cortese, Franco Scandurra, Lea Padovani and Giulietta Masina. Confirmation of her talent came in 1950 with the role of the soubrette Liliana in Lattuada’s “Variety Lights”, a film that she decided to produce alongside her husband, Federico Fellini and Masina. In 1951 Guido Brignone gave her the opportunity, with “Core ‘ngrato”, to act alongside her father, an experience she repeated two years later in “Bufere”, again by Brignone. In the fifties she discovers light theater and in 1956 she is engaged as a showgirl in the magazine by Scarnicci and Tarabusi “All women except me”, played by Macario. Over the course of the decade, after playing Lia in Hugo Fregonese’s “I wanderers” with Peter Ustinov, increasingly dissatisfied with the roles offered to her in the cinema, she turned her interest to the small screen and the nascent universe of television dramas. She is the protagonist of “Piccolo mondo antico” (1957) by Silverio Blasi, in the same year she is in the cast of “Operation Shakespeare” by Daniele D’Anza and three years later in that of “Tutto da rifare pover’uomo” by Eros Macchi . At the end of the sixties he decides to leave the stage to devote himself to his family. He dies at the age of 84.
