BIOGRAPHY OF GEORGE GERSHWIN
Composer. Sometimes also known as: G. Gershwin, Gershwin. Son of Russian Jewish emigrants. In 1913 he left school to study music. From 1916 to 1936 he composed songs for musical performances on Broadway, where he achieved enormous international success. In Hollywood, where he later moved, his songs are performed by Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. In 1937 he falls in love with Paulette Goddard, Charlie Chaplin’s future wife. In 1937 he died of a brain tumor. His funeral was celebrated in both Hollywood and New York.
