In 1989 he was given a great television opportunity with the conduct of the Sanremo Festival with Danny Quinn, Rosita Celentano is Paola Dominguin; possibility that confirms his fame in that period as a face known to the Italian public. In the same year he began studying acting and devoted himself to the theater, performing first for clubs, and then dedicating himself in the new millennium in particular to musicals.

In the meantime, he continues his commitment to cinema, delivering to the 90s, after the death of his father, various interpretations ranging from the drama of Crack (1991) of Giulio Base to the lighter one of Ultra (1991) directed by his brother Ricky, passing through the violence of Shaved heads (1993) up to comedy with The graduates (1995) of Leonardo Pieraccioni. In recent years he has been directed twice by Angelo Longoni in the comedies in Men without women (1996) and Let’s have a fiesta (1997), where he meets his colleague Alessandro Gassman, with whom he will collaborate at other times over the years. Later he is again directed by his brother in the political drama The decision maker (1997) and in the comedy Not me, which Ricky shoots with his wife Simona Izzo in 2003; in the same year he is also one of the protagonists of his sister’s directorial debut Maria Sole Tognazzi with Present perfect (2003).

The 2000s saw him alternate between more committed and demanding films, like the historians Chechnya (2004) and Guido challenged the Red Brigades (2007), to others of a purely comic nature, such as Former (2009), Christmas in Beverly Hills (2009), The Usual Idiots – The Movie (2011) and Poor but rich (2016). These are also years, in which his value as an actor is recognized not only in Italy, where he is nominated for the Silver Ribbons for his interpretation in Criminal novel (2005), but also internationally with the participation, albeit small, a To Rome with Love (2012) of Woody Allen.
