Liam Payne still thinks about the day Zayn Malik broke up with One Direction. He poked fun at the life-changing moment and meeting his remaining band mates – Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan – which subsequently took place in a fun new TikTok.
In it, he uses the viral audio of a man asking “Are we absolutely sure in which direction we’re going?” Pretty place on, if you ask us. “POV the meeting after Zayn quits,” he wrote at the top of the video.
“I forgot I did it some time ago,” he said in the caption. The “Strip That Down” crooner added that he hoped viewers could “see the funny side” so it didn’t sound bitter. More likely, he couldn’t pass up the opportunity to use such a suitable meme.
Check out Payne’s fun TikTok below:
Malik parted ways with the boy band in early 2015 and dropped their debut album in 2016. The remaining band members took a hiatus after dropping their debut album as a quartet – Made In The AM – in 2015. Since then then all five of the original members pursued solo careers.
Payne, Styles, Tomlinson and Horan have commented on or alluded to Malik’s departure since then. Styles called Malik “Ringo” during an appearance on Saturday Night Live, a move Panye later deemed “funny.”
Payne also spoke candidly about Malik in a 2019 interview. “I think with Zayn’s particular outing and the way he chose to go, we haven’t really heard from him since he left.” , he told GQ Hype. “He didn’t even say goodbye, if I’m being honest. It was a really sordid scenario, certainly from our side. Bit strange. It’s difficult.”
Horan told The Sun that Malik was a difficult person to stay in touch with. For his part, Malik has not hesitated to overshadow the group and its work with them over the years. He told British Vogue he didn’t make any friends in 2018.
Hopefully they can all come back to it with a sense of humor like Payne clearly is.
