MARK WAHLBERG BIOGRAPHY
Mark Robert Michael Wahlberg was born in June 1971 in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, to a mother who was a bank employee and a father who was a unionist and truck driver. He is the youngest of nine siblings. Cocaine addict already at the age of 13, at 15 and at 16 he was arrested for racially motivated assaults. At 21, when he already became the frontman of the hip-hop band Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, is stopped again for similar episodes, but fortunately the guilt and the great musical success of the single Good Vibrations, platinum record, help him get back on track: he will remain with the band until 1993, after having posed thanks to his handsome physique in a campaign for Calvin Klein in 1992.
Minor TV films begin for him in 1993, but he appears on the big screen only in 1994, in Half a professor among the marines with Danny DeVito. Hard to take off as the protagonist, despite the thriller Fear (1996) next to Reese Witherspoon, but he succeeds by interpreting the truth Dirk Diggler porn actor in the historical Boogie Nights (1997) of Paul Thomas Anderson. Cross some cultural twinning with the Oriente in action The big hit is The Corruptor, but again shows its ductility in Three Kings (1999), alongside George Clooney is Ice Cube. Turbulent experience, but Wahlberg is not the type to judge the excesses on the director’s set David O. Russell, so she’ll be back to work with him already for I Heart Huckabees in 2004. Re-meet Clooney in the same period, aboard a ship in distress, in the great success of The perfect storm (2000).
Two attempts at revival in which remakes are hunted do little work Planet of the Apes (2001) of Tim Burton is The Italian Job (2003) of F. Gary Gray, but it is a good moment for his private life: in 2001 he marries the ex-model Rhea Durham, with whom he will have four children. He gives vent to his sporting spirit and his connection with his street roots respectively in the Disney world Unbeatable (2005) and in the fort Four Brothers (2006) of John Singleton.
The double consecration comes in 2006 with The Departed of Martin Scorsese, in which he is the inflexible policeman Dignam: working with Scorsese would already be enough, but he also gets a double Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for best supporting role. But it doesn’t seem that Mark builds much on this explosion: the next ones Shooter is Owners of the night of 2007 do not consecrate it, so much so that it seeks new paths. It won’t suit him very well.
Max Payne (2008), taken from the video game of the same name, is a poorly performing b-movie, while And the day came (2008) of M. Night Shyamalan, where he also puts himself to the test with the unpublished role of a quiet professor, confirms to most the director’s descent. In 2009 he also crosses one of the most criticized films of Peter Jackson, the disputed adaptation of lovable remains, in which he is the father of the murdered girl. Bad luck.
Two other nominations arrive instead when he re-embraces sport and the humble, with the The Fighter (2010), again of David O. Russell: close to the Oscar as a producer (for the best film) e the Golden Globe for best protagonist. Two years later, his search for different roles finally succeeds, even if at first he has serious difficulties at the idea of acting with the foul-mouthed bear in performance capture by Seth MacFarlane: Ted (2012) and Ted 2 (2015) are two box office hits and feature a Mark with solid and unusual comedic tempos.
Between 2013 and 2014 collaborates with another rather energetic guy, the director Michael Bay, which first involved him in the (relatively) low budget film Pain & Gain, then even builds the second Transformers saga on him with Transformers 4 – Age of Extinction: A resume blockbuster never hurts.
It should be noted that Wahlberg has been pursuing an activity as a television and film producer for some time: he is also responsible for the highly successful series Entourage (2004-2011), Boardwalk Empire (2010-2014) and the critically acclaimed thriller at the cinema Prisoners of Denis Villeneuve.
