Paris Jackson spoke candidly about how she revealed herself to her religious family.
Wednesday June 16, Paris spoke with Willow Smith in an episode of Red Table Talk. The couple have spoken of the singer’s exit from “Let Down” as loving both the men and women of her religious family.
“I’m still figuring out,” she explained. “My family is very religious, and many, like homosexuality, are very taboo. So we don’t talk about it, and it’s not really accepted.”
His mother, Debbie Rowe, is believed to be Jewish, while some of the Jackson family are Jehovah’s Witnesses. Although she has said that religious beliefs have made it difficult to feel comfortable, she is learning how to cope.
“I have come to a point where I respect them and I have love for them, I respect their beliefs,” explained Paris. “I respect their religion. Right now I’m at a point where, expecting them to put aside their culture and religion, like, expectations, of me, will lead to resentment.”
After coming out to his family, his brother, Prince Jackson, joined a gay alliance at his high school to show his support.
Despite some beliefs of his family, Paris is also religious or spiritual in a different way. She revealed that she had attempted suicide more than once and that after a “really hard night” she decided to pray and give herself affirmations in a mirror. His actions made him recognize himself for the first time in ten years.
“A lot of people regret when they try to kill themselves,” she continued. “There were times I did it and times I didn’t, where I was upset that it didn’t work. But I can say, many years later, that I am really grateful that it didn’t work out. Things got better. “
