Mark is passionate, thanks also to the fact that his adoptive father manages a theater on the Off-Off-Broadway circuit. In the adolescent period he rounded up by being a bouncer for some clubs in New York and it was in this moment of his life that he began to be called Vin Diesel (Vin is short for Vincent, Diesel is the nickname given to him by friends for his inexhaustible energy), because for that type of work it is advisable not to use your name. After three years of college, he drops everything and leaves for Los Angeles. Coming from the theater, however, he fails to make a very good impression on Hollywood casting agencies and after a year he returns to New York. His mother gives him a book called “Feature Films at Used Car Prices” from which he brings out a certain productive creativity by making the short film Multi-Facial (1995), based on his experiences as an actor, which is screened at Cannes Film Festival. He tries his luck again in Los Angeles where, working as a telemarketing light bulb salesman, he raises the money needed to produce and direct his first feature film entitled Strays (1997). The film goes to Sundance Film Festival but it does not achieve the desired success. Diesel back to New York dejected, but receives the phone call that changes his life.

Steven Spielberg he sees it in the short Multi-Facial (various sources cite instead Strays) and decides to give it a minor part in Saving Private Ryan (1998). In 2000 definitely emerges thanks to two roles that could not be more distant. It is especially this latter role that creates a devoted legion of fans around him destined to grow in the decade that has just begun.

Taking a cue from a newspaper article, the Universal decides to produce a film about illegal racing with tuned cars. The title is Fast and Furious and the actors hired in the main roles are Paul Walker and Vin Diesel. It is the beginning of a great saga, the most profitable ever for the Universal and for the actors involved, but still no one can imagine it. The first film has a good following, so much so that a second one is in the works. Diesel however, he slips away, eager and ambitious as he wants to experiment with new cinematographic frontiers. The actor shoots two detective stories, Dangerous companies is The solver, and adrenaline xXx of Rob Cohen (who directed him in Fast and Furious) alongside Asia Argento. Also for this film he renounces the sequel, but does not say no to a new episode in science-fiction with The Chronicles of Riddick, returning to interpret the humanoid with the ashen eyes. In an attempt to break away from the action (anti) hero label, he accepts a self-deprecating role in the comedy Tata mission and gains about 15 kg to embody the mafia Jackie DiNorscio in Sidney Lumet’s Try to Frame Me. Although the critics appreciate him, the box office receipts do not reward his artistic choices. Also for this reason, in 2007, he chooses not to interpret theAgent 47 in Hitman – The Assassin while remaining involved as an executive producer. In 2008 is the protagonist of science fiction Babylon AD directed by Mathieu Kassovitz, but even in this case the result is far from memorable.

Vin Diesel he takes a pause for reflection. After a cameo in Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift, there Universal turns to him to understand if and how to revive the series on illegal cars. Diesel sets conditions, enters as a producer and, aiming to create a new trilogy, creates a narrative interweaving that links past films with future ones. Fast & Furious 4 – Original Parts Only (2009) it is an unexpected success and marks the highest grossing in the first US weekend in Universal’s history, with $ 72.5 million raised in three days. Immediate is the preparation of the fifth film that comes out two years later, beating previous records. Fast & Furious 5 it collects more than 86 million dollars in three days. Diesel in the meantime he allows himself a new adventure on other planets with Riddick (2013), before returning to the track with Fast & Furious 6 breaking the box office again (97 million at the first weekend). Receives the star on Walk of Fame in Hollywood while the charisma he possesses further cement the relationship with his audience, to such levels as to make him the Hollywood actor with the highest following of followers on Facebook (in the first months of 2015 it had about 90 million fans). And it is through that page, personally managed by himself, that he communicates that he has been called by Marvel for an interview. It seems that the superhero production house has something important to offer him (a role for the future film is rumored Inhumans), but as a first approach he proposes to give voice and movements to the character of Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy which becomes the most profitable film of 2014 on American soil.

Fast & Furious 7 naturally goes into production for what is considered the beginning of the third trilogy in the series. In the middle of the shoot, during a break of a few days, the tragedy happens: Paul Walker dies in Los Angeles in a car accident in a car driven by a friend. It is November 30, 2013 and the production of the film stops indefinitely. Vin Diesel he is in shock like everyone else, from the other actors, to the crew, from the producers to the millions of fans. The actor releases moving messages in memory of his friend on the page Facebook. After deciding how to move forward with the family Walker, and how to change the movie script, Fast & Furious 7 resumes filming by postponing the shooting date by one year, to April 2, 2015.
