June 11, 2021

A lot can happen in ten years.

Just ask Lin-Manuel Miranda and John M. Chu. For Miranda, the past ten years have raised her from obscurity to the surname, having written and produced the Broadway hit “Hamilton,” as well as landed roles in “Mary Poppins Returns” and the HBO hit. “His Dark Materials”.

In that same window of time, Chu went from directing the iconic “Step Up” movies to a true hitmaker, having directed the comedy “Crazy Rich Asians” in 2018.

Now the duo are collaborating on the developing film adaptation of Miranda’s first Broadway hit, “In the Heights.” The film finally arrives in theaters on June 11.

We caught up with Miranda and Chu to discuss their collaboration, the fight to make the movie, and reclaiming the magic from the stage version. ‘In the Heights’ hits theaters June 11.
