PETER FALK’S BIOGRAPHY
Actor and producer. At the age of three, his eye was removed for a serious illness, but his disability never affected him. Before starting his artistic career, Peter is an efficient expert at the Connecticut State Budget Office, but, bored with office work, he begins to take an interest in acting. In 1955 he was already a professional actor with a solid theatrical experience on Broadway. His television debut took place in 1957 and from that moment he took part in numerous television series, including “The Naked City”, “The Untouchables”, “At the edge of reality”. His film debut takes place with Nicholas Ray’s “Paradise of the Barbarians” (1958), which is followed by “Assassin Syndicate” (1960), which earned him an Oscar nomination as a supporting actor, but he is the character of Lieutenant Colombo which makes it known to the general public. The first episode of the series aired on the NBC channel in 1967 and has been thrilling the small screen audience for over thirty years. The series airs continuously for 7 years, from 1971 to 1978, then films are made for TV, many of which are produced by Falk himself, who alternates equally between small and large screen. He often collaborates with John Cassavetes (“Husbands”, 1970, “A wife”, 1974, “Il grande imbroglio”, 1985). In 1988 he is in “The sky above Berlin” by Wim Wenders, in the character of himself-ex angel, and the success obtained prepares the ground for a new regular series by Lieutenant Colombo, which he resumes in 1989. In the following decade Peter Falk devotes more to television, participating in a few feature films, including “The protagonists” by Robert Altman (1992), “So far so close” by Wim Wenders in 1993, where he reprises the character of the former angel. In 2001 he is again a gangster in Rob Pritts’ “Corky Romano”. Married twice: the first with Alice Mayo from 1960 to 1976, with whom he adopted two daughters, the second with the actress Shera Danese, who often accompanies him in the episodes of the series “Il Tenente Colombo”. In 2004 he received the gold plate from the David di Donatello organization.
